Easter eggs with a pattern
This is a heart basket made with 3 x 5 strips – a slightly more advanced version than the Easter Egg without Pattern basket (see related baskets), and one that stands out with its asymmetrical format. The motif is an Easter egg with decorative patterns, and there's room for creativity here: feel free to experiment and create your own pattern on the egg. The unusual combination of 3 and 5 strips gives the basket an interesting and dynamic look, and the motif stands out clearly with contrasting colors. Traditional Easter colors like yellow, purple, green, and pink work well – or try pastel tones for a softer expression.

Basket Template
The template is the foundation for the heart basket and ensures that the strips fit together correctly, which is essential for achieving a smooth result, especially with more advanced baskets. A typical template size is approximately 8 x 12 cm, but you can adjust the size as needed. There are several methods to transfer the template to the basket. You can follow our step-by-step guide for the best results using parchment paper.
This basket does not have and therefore comes with two templates. Each template has a small mark in the corner, indicating how the parts should be placed in the starting position. The two marks should align on top of each other before you start weaving to ensure the pattern is correct.
How to Make the Basket
It doesn't take much to get started with making a basket. Here is a short list of steps on how you can make your own basket. If you haven't woven much before or need a refresher, you can follow a more detailed recipe on Basket Making Page our page.
Download and print the template above. A common template size is about 8 x 12 cm, but you can adjust the size as needed.
Choose two different colors of paper (glossy paper is recommended). Draw the template onto the paper and fold the paper in half. The bottom of the template should be along the closed side of the paper. Cut out the basket.
Weave the hearts by alternating the strips inside and outside of each other.
Cut out a handle and glue it inside the hearts.
